How to Get the Most of Your Fuel Mileage

Last Updated: June 24, 2011

With the prices of Fuel increasing the wages remaining the same, more and more vehicle owners are wondering how to make the most of their Fuel money and increase the mileage from the vehicle they are driving, making changes within their driving habits to reduce the amount which is spent on Fuel each week.

Here are some tips that can be used to make your fuel mileage go a little farther:

-          Stop using the air conditioning. Using the air conditioning within the vehicle can decrease the fuel mileage within the vehicle, as the engine must work just that much harder in order to run the fans that are used to create the cool air within the vehicle. Rather than using the air conditioning, consider opening up the windows for some fresh air!

-          Keep to the speed limit. By keeping to the speed limit, not only are you staying safe, you are also ensuring that you are conserving Fuel. The old adage is true, as you speed with each ten miles you increase in speed, you are wasting ten percent more fuel. There has never been a better reason to slow it down a little.

-          Ditch the extra weight. Extra weight within a vehicle, such as a heavy hockey bag that you are carrying around, or other sports equipment and items that find their way into your trunk, are an effective way to decrease the mileage that you receive.

Using these tips while driving can help to reduce the amount of fuel that is wasted and therefore reduce the costs that are associated with fueling the vehicle. There are many other ways that you can save fuel and conserve fuel in the vehicle, especially through ensuring that the vehicle is well maintained and in the best working order.
